New Motor, But What One? |
Lead | |
|
So my motor is shot, pretty much what Troy said about my bearings going out, so I'm trying to think what I should do if I decide to drop another motor in
it. Thinking about getting away from the L67 to try other stuff, maybe whole motor, maybe just N/A shortblock with higher compression. Anyone have any
positives and negatives about dropping in a L36 or L26 shortblock and just putting the L67 heads and etc on that, dropping an L32 in with or without the Gen V,
idk whatever else is possible.

Ask Gixer2000 he just did the L26 with a Gen 3 blower on it. I was going the same route till my dumb ass mistake of having the timing out and cracked a piston
with my hand when turning the motor with a ratchet. LOL! L32 is going to run you an arm and a leg to get but if you can get a great deal on the motor with or
without blower then go for it. If it has the blower and you don't want it then I am sure you can find a buyer for the LIM and blower for about $400-$500 to
help you get some cash back out of it if you decide you do not want to put it on the motor. I myself if I was trying to save money would try to find a L67 but
you seem to want to stay away from it. I say L67 for one reason only which is the fact that if you with with a L26 or L36 block and put a blower on it you WILL
have be able to get a tune done to it right away to help it AND you will need to get a slightly larger pulley to accommodate the compression difference. If you
are willing to do that stuff and can do it then by ALL MEANS DO IT! There is supposed to be a slight MPG increase also cause of the motor not going into boost
as much from the compression adding the extra boost and pushing the car better and making the supercharger more efficient.
Its coming.....We all know it.....It will change the way we all see our world.....Period!

i would say rebuild time myself...if i wanted compression i would do pistons while it was apart (this is all assuming i had the budget it would take to buy a
whole other short block (l32/l26, tune and supporting mods)

Ya idk why I said I want to stay away from the L67, it really doesn't matter I just need a reliable motor for a decent price lol. I'm just not happy
about how this turned out. There's a series 3 on ebay with the bidding at $300 right now, I'm eyeing that at the moment.

If you can get a series 3 for under $1000 for decent miles(100K or less) you are achieving something.

You don't need anyting. It will all bolt right up, you might need to remove the AC bracket as the AC bolts right to the block on a L32.
