Stalling for no reason |
Lead | |
|
Twice in the past 4 days my car has stalled for no apparent reason whatsoever. There's no sputtering or rough idle or anything...it just dies. Both times
it's happened I've been in the middle of a turn and boom....just dead. Both times it's done it, it has started back up immediatley and has run
without problem after that. It's not throwing any codes, except that stupid crank position sensor (which isn't even throwing a code I just know
it's bad from the one time it did). Any ideas?

So let me get this straight, you know that you have a bad crank position sensor, but yet you have no intent to change it? Now you are wondering why your car
isn't running right? Why don't you fix the crank position sensor and see if the car stops stalling. You could also look into your MAF sensor. When
was the last time your car had a tune up?

Yes, I know it has a bad sensor. And no, I never said that I didn't intend on changing it. I don't mean to sound like a dick nor do I want to look ill informed. I know it's something that needs to be done, I just don't have the equipment to change it myself and wanted to see if anyone had any other suggestions as to what could be the problem before I spent a fortune at the dealership chasing the problem, that's all. I'll check the MAF sensor anyway....what is it that you all use to clean it? As for a tune up, I changed the plugs and wires about two weeks ago, the oil about a month and a half ago, and the air filter about 3 months ago. Also, I just want to mention that the car has never, and I mean literally never, stalled before the past couple of days.... |

Which brand should I buy then? I checked my local Advance Auto and they have BWD, Niehoff, and Standard Motor Products. I could have sworn I saw an official
GM/Delco on one of our aftermarket sites, but I can't find it now.

I was told (after I did it) to use a q-tip when cleaning the MAF. It was suggested not to spray the cleaner directly onto the metal bars, but to instead spray
the q-tip and wipe down the bars.

Clear the code and verify you only have that one code. We it happens next if it is related it will signal a DTC. For giggles does either of your fuel pump
relays in the under hood fuel panel feel excessively hot after you drive it for a while?
Try moving the wire harness that comes up from the CPS and see if you can get the code to set again.

As did I, but I think that my maf was too far gone at that point. Thats what I get for not waiting for the k&n filter oil to fully dry before
re-installing. Had no time, I was leaving for norwalk the following morning.

Just grab a MAF. Try the standard motor products or whatever one fits into your budget.
ZZP has the MAF sensors; http://www.zzperformance....prix/products1.php?id=378 It says, "out of stock", but that was like 6 months ago. I would give them a call and see if they have more in stock now.
